The 8-bit Era
After 1989, as Poland regained its sovereignty, it became possible to legally run private businesses. This was the moment when the first Polish video game studios began to emerge, founded mainly by students.
The 1990s marked a time of digital awakening. Computer magazines and programming books were sold in enormous numbers, while home computers – first 8-bit machines, and shortly after much more advanced ones – reached hundreds of thousands of households. Already in the early years of the decade, dozens of Polish video games were created, many of which are now considered cult classics.
Among the most memorable titles of this era were Robbo, Miecze Valdgira, Misja, and A.D. 2044 – games that became a permanent part of the history of Polish game development.
