Observer
Released in 2017 by the Kraków-based studio Bloober Team, Observer is a psychological cyberpunk horror that cemented Poland’s position on the global game development map. The game combines elements of science fiction and thriller with a profound exploration of identity, memory, and the boundaries of human consciousness.
Set in a dystopian Kraków in the year 2084, Observer portrays a world devastated by technological collapse and a nanophage epidemic that has driven humanity to the brink of extinction. Players assume the role of Detective Daniel Lazarski, a neural investigator capable of hacking into people’s memories and dreams. The character was portrayed by the late Rutger Hauer - the legendary Blade Runner actor – whose performance imbued the game with a haunting, cinematic presence.

Observer captivated audiences with its retro-futuristic vision inspired by 1980s cyberpunk aesthetics - flickering neon lights, decaying industrial interiors, and a pervasive sense of claustrophobia. Its meticulous sound design and immersive visual storytelling created a world pulsing with unease and ambiguity, pulling players into surreal journeys through fragmented memories and subconscious fears.

The game received widespread critical acclaim for its mature narrative, atmosphere, and intricate world-building. In 2020, Bloober Team released an enhanced edition, Observer: System Redux, rebuilt for next-generation consoles with 4K resolution, ray tracing, remastered sound, and expanded storylines.
Through its artistic direction, philosophical depth, and technical refinement, Observer became one of the defining Polish titles of the 2010s, a game that proved cyberpunk could be not only spectacular, but also deeply personal and introspective.
