Two Worlds

Reality Pump, 2007

Released in 2007, Two Worlds was developed by the Kraków-based studio Reality Pump and became one of the most internationally recognized Polish role-playing games of its era. It offered an alternative vision for the evolution of Polish RPGs – emphasizing freedom of exploration and the vast scale of its open world over strictly linear storytelling.

Set in the fantasy realm of Antaloor, the game follows a mercenary searching for his missing sister. Along the way, players must choose sides in a conflict between the forces of good and evil while uncovering the kingdom’s darker secrets. Its expansive world – filled with cities, ruins, caves, and desolate wilderness – was among the largest of its time, giving players a strong sense of agency and discovery.

Two Worlds introduced a deep combat and character progression system, the ability to combine weapons into more powerful sets, and a sophisticated multiplayer mode that let players explore the open world together – a remarkably forward-thinking feature for the genre. Powered by the proprietary Earth Engine, the game showcased impressive visuals, dynamic day-night cycles, and an atmospheric soundtrack that together created the tone of an epic fantasy adventure.

The game enjoyed notable commercial success and found a strong following in Western Europe and the United States. Its sequel, Two Worlds II (2010), expanded upon the original’s mechanics and storytelling ambitions, solidifying Reality Pump’s reputation as one of Poland’s leading development studios of the late 2000s.
