Papetura

Petums, 2021

Created by the one-person Polish indie studio Petums and released in 2021, Papetura is an experimental, artistic adventure game that combines interactive storytelling with a distinctive paper-themed aesthetic known as the “Paperverse.” The game immerses players in a world built from cutouts and hand-drawn illustrations, where every element of the environment contributes to the narrative, creating a cohesive and evocative story.

Players assume the role of a small creature navigating this handcrafted world, uncovering puzzles and experiencing the journey of the protagonist. The gameplay revolves around exploration, environmental interaction, and solving challenges seamlessly integrated into the artistic world of the game.

Papetura stands out for its unique visual style, where the entire environment resembles paper cutouts, giving the game a poetic and melancholic tone. Every location, character, and object helps build the narrative, providing an immersive experience that encourages reflection on the story and the emotions of the protagonist. The game’s soundtrack, composed by Floex (Tomasz Dvořák), further enhances the atmosphere of mystery and subtle unease.
