SUPERHOT

Superhot Team, 2016

Released in 2016 by the independent Polish studio SUPERHOT Team, SUPERHOT became one of the most original and influential titles in modern video game history. What began as a small experimental prototype created during the online 7-Day FPS Challenge quickly evolved into a global phenomenon, celebrated for its simplicity, precision, and bold innovation.

Its core concept is brilliantly simple: time moves only when you move. Every step, every action, becomes a tactical decision. By merging the intensity of a first-person shooter with the logic of a puzzle game, SUPERHOT redefined how action could be experienced. The minimalist visual design — stark white environments, red crystalline enemies, and translucent objects — gave the game an instantly recognizable identity and an iconic style.

Praised worldwide for its creativity and originality, SUPERHOT earned numerous awards and nominations, including at the SXSW Gaming Awards, BAFTA Games Awards, and Poland’s Digital Dragons. Critics hailed it as “the most innovative shooter in years,” while players admired its hypnotic rhythm, strategic tension, and elegant design clarity.

The release of SUPERHOT VR later in 2016 brought the concept into an entirely new dimension. In virtual reality, the experience became visceral and physical — players literally dodged bullets, reached out for weapons, and controlled time through their own movements. The VR edition received widespread acclaim, becoming one of the defining titles of the early VR era and a benchmark for immersive gameplay.

Both a commercial and artistic triumph, SUPERHOT has since been released on all major platforms — from PC and consoles to VR systems. It stands as a testament to Polish creativity at its finest: a game proving that visionary design and a single brilliant idea can reshape an entire genre.
