Miecze Valdgira

Published by ASF for the Atari 8-bit platform, Miecze Valdgira stands as one of the most distinctive Polish adventure-platform games of the early 1990s. The series reflects the enduring passion of Polish developers for rich storytelling, intricate puzzles, and carefully crafted mechanics that engage both reflexes and intellect.
In the first installment (1991), players take on the role of the mage Aldir, who descends into the dungeons of Heldgor Castle to recover five legendary swords and lift a curse that plagues the kingdom. The game blends action with logic, offering nonlinear exploration, spatial challenges, and hidden passages to uncover.
The sequel, Miecze Valdgira II: Władca Gór (1993), expanded both the scope and depth of the story. Now the ruler of Dale, Aldir is captured by the tyrant Bloody Zenon and must regain his freedom by navigating a maze filled with traps and complex puzzles. The second chapter introduced richer narrative elements, atmospheric music, and a more detailed world.
The success of the series led to ports for other platforms, including the Commodore 64, Commodore 128, and Amiga, bringing Valdgir’s adventures to a wider audience in Poland and beyond.
